Multicultural Celebration in Wicklow Town

A celebration of multiculturalism took place in CEART, home of Wicklow Travellers Group in Wicklow Town on Tuesday 11th March.  Organised by County Wicklow Partnership, Wicklow Travellers Group, and the Community Garda Section of the Wicklow Garda Station, the event focused around the food and traditions of some of the many ethnic groups living in Wicklow Town today.  Representatives from Australia, Spain, Brazil, the Czech Republic, Poland, Scotland, Italy, Ireland and the Traveller Community shared traditional food dishes and stories from their various regions and cultures.  The event recognised and welcomed the rich diversity of cultures in the town while highlighting the services and supports offered by the Community Gardaí, CEART and the Wicklow Fáilte Isteach Project.  Helen Howes of County Wicklow Partnership said “This was a fantastic social event that promoted a greater understanding of the increasing multiculturalism of Wicklow, its wonderful people, and some of the great support services the town has to offer”.
