July has been an incredible month here at the Wicklow Travellers Group, with a whirlwind of activities for our young members and meaningful initiatives for our adult community. Summer is always a busy time for us, and this year was no exception, as we ran a series of exciting projects and trips aimed at keeping our children engaged, active, and inspired, while also offering support and wellness initiatives for our adult members.

Summer Project Trips for Children (Ages 7–15)

This July, we ran nine amazing summer project trips, carefully designed to cater to children aged 7–15. Each trip offered a unique experience, combining fun, learning, social interaction, and outdoor adventure. These trips have been an excellent way to foster friendships, encourage teamwork, and give our young people memorable experiences during the school holidays.

1. Clara Lara Adventure Park
Our summer kicked off with a thrilling day at Clara Lara Adventure Park. Children of all ages enjoyed exploring the park’s extensive playgrounds, slides, and water features. There was laughter at every corner, as children tested their courage on obstacle courses, splash areas, and nature trails. This trip was a fantastic way for our younger members to burn off energy while enjoying the great outdoors.

2. Glendalough Sports Day
Next up was our Glendalough Sports Day, a lively and action-packed day filled with team games, races, and traditional sporting challenges. Children participated in relay races, tug-of-war, and fun obstacle courses. The day promoted teamwork, healthy competition, and physical activity, all in the stunning surroundings of Glendalough’s scenic valleys and lakes.

3. Cinema Trip
After all the physical activity, we treated the children to a relaxing cinema trip. This was a chance to sit back, enjoy the latest family-friendly films, and experience the excitement of watching a movie on the big screen. It was also an opportunity for children to bond, chat about their favourite parts, and enjoy a little downtime.

4. Dublin Zoo
Our Dublin Zoo trip was a real highlight of the summer. Children had the chance to see exotic animals from around the world, learn about conservation, and participate in educational talks and activities. From playful monkeys to majestic lions, every child left with wide eyes, new knowledge, and unforgettable memories.

5. Make-Up & Nails Day
Creativity and self-expression were the focus of our Make-Up & Nails Day. This hands-on activity gave children, particularly our older girls, the chance to experiment with colours, designs, and styles in a safe and supportive environment. It was wonderful to see the pride on the children’s faces as they showed off their creative work.

6. Wax Museum Trip
The Wax Museum trip offered a mix of education and fun. Children enjoyed seeing life-like figures of historical and contemporary personalities, learning about famous leaders, musicians, and actors. This trip sparked curiosity, discussion, and plenty of photo opportunities!

7. Fishing Trip
For a more peaceful experience, we organized a fishing trip. Children learned patience, technique, and respect for nature while spending a quiet day by the water. This was a valuable opportunity for reflection and connection with the outdoors.

8. Airsoft Adventure
For our older children looking for action and teamwork, the Airsoft trip was a perfect fit. Participants navigated team strategies, improved communication skills, and enjoyed a day full of energy and friendly competition. This trip was particularly popular with children seeking adventure and a little adrenaline!

9. Emerald Park Trip
Finally, we wrapped up our summer project trips with a trip to Emerald Park. The day was packed with rides, attractions, and games, leaving children with unforgettable memories. Laughter, excitement, and friendship filled the day, making it a perfect conclusion to a busy month of activities.

Each of these trips not only provided entertainment but also promoted confidence, social skills, and personal growth. Feedback from parents and children has been overwhelmingly positive, and it’s been inspiring to see the children try new activities, challenge themselves, and support one another throughout the summer.

Men’s Health Check-In at CEART

While the children were enjoying their summer adventures, we also focused on the health and well-being of our adult members. This month, we hosted a Men’s Health Check-In at CEART, providing a safe and supportive environment for men to discuss health concerns, undergo basic screenings, and receive guidance on maintaining physical and mental well-being.

Health and wellness initiatives like this are crucial for empowering our adult members to take control of their health, learn about preventative measures, and connect with local resources. The event was well-attended, with members appreciating the opportunity to have honest conversations about their health in a welcoming and confidential setting.

Looking Ahead

July has been a month of fun, learning, and community connection. The summer project trips for children have offered adventure, education, and social interaction, while the men’s health check-in reminded us of the importance of caring for our adult members as well.

As we move into August, the Wicklow Travellers Group is committed to continuing this momentum, offering more activities, projects, and support initiatives for all members of our community. Thank you to all the staff, volunteers, and families who helped make this month a resounding success. Together, we are building a stronger, healthier, and more connected community in Wicklow.
