WTG is committed to working for access, fair opportunity and good outcomes for the Traveller community in the area of education and training.Intercultural approaches to education will be needed in order to ensure that the right to education for Traveller children and adults are being realized. WTG works to promote increased Traveller participation and outcomes from education at all level, design and deliver locally based community and adult education programmes with relevant bodies i.e. Solas, KWETB etc. to meet the interests of Traveller men and women and to seek accreditation where appropriate.We work to promote interculturalism with education providers and collaborate with education providers to develop effective anti – bullying, non – discriminatory practice. This includes enrolment procedures and Yellow Flag initiatives with schools.
In conjunction with Show Racism the Red Card and with support from Wicklow Co. Council’s ARDS committee, Wicklow Travellers Group developed an Anti -Discrimination Pack in 2011.
Wicklow Travellers Group also offers training and information sessions about diversity and Traveller culture to schools and other organisations. School groups are also welcome to visit the centre by arrangement.
