Traveller children and Traveller youth will be provided with meaningful opportunities to participate in culturally appropriate youth work programmes that are designed to reflect and meet their unique interests, backgrounds, and developmental needs. These programmes include a wide range of activities across areas such as sports, arts, culture, and community engagement, all tailored to be both inclusive and respectful of Traveller identity.
As part of this commitment, the organisation, through its dedicated team of youth and community workers, organises and facilitates high-quality summer camps. These camps are carefully planned to be age-appropriate, engaging, and supportive, creating a safe and enjoyable environment where young Travellers can build confidence, develop new skills, and form positive peer relationships.
Throughout the year, WTG also coordinates separate boys’ and girls’ youth groups, providing consistent and structured spaces for young people to express themselves, explore their interests, and engage in personal and social development. The design and implementation of activities within these groups are informed by the voices of the young people themselves, ensuring a participatory approach that respects their input and preferences.
In delivering all programmes, WTG maintains the highest standards of compliance with relevant legislation and policy. This includes full adherence to the Children First guidelines and child protection legislation, as well as strict observance of the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) and national data protection laws. Furthermore, WTG operates in line with the Governance Code for Community, Voluntary and Charitable Organisations, ensuring accountability, transparency, and best practice in all aspects of service delivery.
This comprehensive approach underscores WTG’s commitment to empowering Traveller youth through inclusive, safe, and culturally affirming youth work that both protects and uplifts young people within their own communities.
